While we look forward to bright, joyful days, we are thoroughly prepared for the unexpected. Our staff undergoes continuous emergency training, and our facility features advanced safety infrastructure. Below is an overview of the rigorous measures we take to protect our community.
Our Secured Campus & Facilities
We maintain a strict perimeter to ensure a safe, distraction-free environment for learning and play:
- Controlled Access: NBCC operates as a fully enclosed campus. Our entry gates remain securely locked at all times, accessible only via a private combination provided exclusively to staff and enrolled families.
- Active Surveillance: The campus is monitored by a 24/7 video security system to ensure continuous oversight of our perimeter and communal areas.
- Fortified Classrooms: Inside our well-built structures, our windows are reinforced with protective Kevlar security film. Each classroom is fully equipped with dedicated emergency communication devices, specialized "go-bags," and robust medical first aid kits.

In the event of a local incident, severe weather, or regional emergency, our team follows a strict, structured hierarchy of action to ensure no time is wasted.
1. Secure the Environment
Immediate Protection
Depending on the scenario (such as an air quality alert or a neighborhood disturbance), our first step is to bring all children inside our fortified classrooms and lock down all internal and external access points.
2. Coordinate with Authorities
Emergency Response Coordination
NBCC maintains a close, direct relationship with local first responders. We work hand-in-hand with the Santa Cruz Police and Fire Departments to receive real-time updates and ensure immediate response if needed.
3. Family Communication
Real-Time Updates
We prioritize clear, calm, and immediate communication with our families. Using our dedicated emergency broadcast tools, parents are notified instantly of the situation, our current status, and clear instructions for reunification if necessary.
Drills & Child-Centered Safety Education
We believe that preparedness should feel empowering, not frightening, for young children. We regularly practice developmentally appropriate safety drills so that emergency protocols feel natural and routine to our students:
- Earthquake Preparedness: Children learn exactly how and where to safely take cover within their classrooms.
- Fire & Evacuation Drills: We practice calm, orderly exit paths so children know exactly how to move with their teachers to our designated campus assembly points.
