Tours: (831) 429-NBCC (6222)
In addition to NBCC's health policies, we will be following the CDC's and Public Health's guidelines & recommendations for best practices regarding COVID-19 containment.
There will be new procedures & protocols in place (see the 'Procedures & Protocols' dropdown) and more stringent enforcement of our 'Sick Policy'.
Our Health Policy requires that families assess their child at home and if showing any symptoms of illness or a fever of 99.5F or above, to keep them home. NBCC also requires that families call in when their child will be staying home from school.
COVID-19 symptoms mimic the typical cold, cough, & flu, so NBCC will be using the 'extra precaution' protocol at morning 'health check-ins' before allowing a symptomatic child to enter.
If a child has a contagious illness, NBCC is required to report to public health and post a public notice. Contagious illnesses include, but are not limited to: COVID-19, measles, rubella, chicken pox, head lice, and pink eye. Privacy laws are upheld with such postings.
People with COVID have had a wide range of symptoms ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
This list of symptoms look similar very to the illnesses that children contract regularly. This year, we ask families to assess your child's health every morning at home before dropping them off at school. This should include a daily temperature check. Please do not give your child medication before taking their temperature or before dropping them off. If they have any of these symptoms we ask that you keep your child home. Note...this request is already a part of NBCC's sick policy. We will be strictly following this policy in addition to the extra protocols recommended by the CDC and Santa Cruz County Health Department.

State Licensing regulates that children with symptoms of illness are not admitted into group environments.
Upon arrival to school, families will, in addition to signing child in, be required to document their child's morning temperature and relay information regarding COVID symptoms and risk. This will be in the form of a check box.
NBCC teachers will greet each child and assess their overall health. Teachers will ask families to provide information about recent administered medication, as well as, any health changes within the last 24 hours including sleep, eating, and/or behavioral patterns. NBCC requests that families do not send their child to school on any medications, either over-the-counter or prescribed, without first conversing with Directors/teachers. Fever reducers and antihistamines can mask symptoms of illness which could contribute to its spread. No child shall be admitted into school who is displaying symptoms of illness.
Children must stay home or be sent home if experiencing any of the following symptoms:
These health guidelines apply to staff as well as children.
Prescription medications can be administered at school ONLY if the following conditions are met:
When medical treatment is over, families are required to remove the medicine and expired medication as well.
